BTI Honors Five Cooley Partners for Superior Client Service

March 29, 2018

Palo Alto – March 29, 2018 – BTI Consulting Group named Matthew D. Brown, Bill Donovan, Laura Grossfield Birger, Carol Laherty and Stephen Smith to its 2018 Client Service All-Stars list. The publication also highlighted Donovan as a Client Service MVP for being listed for two consecutive years.

The annual list recognizes elite lawyers who have mastered the art of superior client service, based on data drawn from 350 one-on-one interviews with general counsel and their direct reports at large and Fortune 1000 companies. Corporate counsel single out each attorney – by name and in an unprompted manner – as delivering the absolute best client service. In December, BTI ranked Cooley top five on its Client Service A-Team 30 report, reinforcing the firm’s ability to provide the most value for the dollar.

Brown (San Francisco) is a member of Cooley's commercial litigation, class action litigation, intellectual property litigation, and white collar and regulatory defense practice groups, and is vice chair of Cooley’s cyber/data/privacy group. He defends companies in cases presenting novel issues from emerging technologies and business models, including many matters involving cutting-edge privacy and data security issues.

Donovan (Los Angeles) is an accomplished litigator whose practice focuses on trial and appellate litigation, with an emphasis on consumer class actions and complex commercial cases.

Birger (New York) is an accomplished trial attorney focused on white-collar criminal matters, internal investigations, complex commercial litigation and appellate matters.

Laherty (Seattle) is a life sciences patent attorney who specializes in developing and executing worldwide patent and market exclusivity strategies consistent with biotechnology companies’ business goals.

Smith (Washington, DC) is the chair of Cooley’s intellectual property litigation practice. He has tried numerous high-profile disputes to decision across a diverse range of industries and technologies as a private practice and government litigator.
