Cooley: A Five-Time Law360 Privacy Practice Group of the Year

January 10, 2017

Palo Alto – January 10, 2017 – Law360 named Cooley’s global privacy & data protection practice a Practice Group of the Year for the fifth time in six years. The annual list recognizes elite firms that “came through for clients by sealing the biggest deals and securing wins in high-stakes litigation.”

“Our clients are creating, developing and utilizing innovative technologies that often outpace the law,” said Michael Rhodes, partner and co-chair of Cooley's privacy and data protection practice. Rhodes is one of only two US lawyers to have earned Law360’s Privacy MVP status six year in a row. “It’s been exciting for our team to successfully litigate the resulting novel legal issues, helping to shape and define modern day privacy law along the way.”

“In today’s interconnected world, breaches and other data security incidents are an unfortunate reality,” said Matthew D. Brown, partner and co-chair of Cooley’s privacy and data protection practice. “As our privacy and data protection practice at Cooley evolves with this changing landscape, we’re proud of our success in working proactively with clients to help them better understand and control their liability exposure.”

Cooley's 50+ privacy lawyers specialize in counseling, compliance, regulatory and litigation representation covering a wide range of issues, including online and mobile privacy, right of publicity, data-breach response, e-commerce, health data, cybersecurity and enterprise security, among others. The group has defended companies in 50+ class actions for clients including Facebook, Google, eBay, LinkedIn, HTC America and Sony and, in the past year, advised on 30+ data breaches and other data security incidents. Cooley’s lawyers in the US and UK work together to counsel clients with an international presence on the multijurisdictional privacy and data protection issues.
