Nima Raises $9.2 Million to Expand Food Allergy Testers

May 20, 2016

San Francisco – May 20, 2016 – Cooley advised foodtech company Nima, formerly known as 6SensorLabs, on its $9.2 million Series A funding. The round was led by Foundry Group, with participation from Upfront Ventures, SoftTech VC, SK Ventures, Lemnos Labs, Mitch Kapor and Matt Rogers, the founder of connected home company Nest.

Nima, which is currently taking pre-orders, makes dining out stress-free for people with food sensitivities through its portable gluten sensor. The company won the esteemed TechCrunch Hardware Battlefield competition at CES 2016 and was named one of Time Magazine's 25 Best Inventions in 2015.

According to Nima CEO Shireen Yates, "This round of funding will fuel the R&D and production of sensors on the Nima platform that test for substances beyond gluten, such as peanuts and milk."

The team advising Nima included Matt Bartus, Josh Seidenfeld and Karen Ubell.
