Reuben Chen Named 2016 Diversity Fellow

March 14, 2016

Palo Alto – March 14, 2016 – Litigation partner Reuben Chen is Cooley’s 2016 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) fellow. As a fellow, Chen will embark on a year-long program created to train and advance the next generation of diverse leaders in the legal industry.

“Cooley is committed to increasing diversity in the firm and across the legal profession,” said Joe Conroy, Cooley’s chief executive officer. “We’re excited to have Reuben take part in this fellowship – his energy, drive and skills make him both a superb litigator and a valued leader. LCLD deserves great credit for all that it does to encourage greater diversity and inclusivity.”

Chen is based in Cooley’s Palo Alto office where his practice focuses on IP litigation and counseling across a wide range of technologies, including web, mobile, and communications technologies, as well as medical devices and biotechnology. He is an active member of the firm’s diversity and pro bono committees.

This is the fourth year Cooley has nominated a fellow for LCLD’s fellows program. Previous Cooley fellows include DeAnna Allen, current chair of Cooley’s Diversity Committee, Joseph Drayton and Jessica Valenzuela Santamaria.

Founded in 2009, LCLD is a growing organization of more than 240 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are personally committed to creating a truly diverse legal profession. The LCLD fellows program, which has trained more than 800 mid-career attorneys since 2011, is one of the council’s most important initiatives. In August 2015, Cooley hosted Colin Stretch, general counsel of Cooley client Facebook, and a group of fellows for a candid discussion regarding diversity in the legal profession.

Cooley is regularly recognized for its commitment to diversity. The Women in Law Empowerment Forum has consistently awarded Cooley its Gold Standard Certification and Cooley has earned a perfect score on The Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. The firm is a Fortune magazine best company to work for and best company for women, as well as a Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers best law firm for women.
