Forbes Names Mike Goldstein a Top 10 Influencer in Higher Ed

January 21, 2016

Washington, DC – January 21, 2016 – Forbes magazine has recognized Mike Goldstein, co-chair of Cooley's education practice, as one of higher education's Top 10 Influencers of 2015.  He was cited for being a leading voice in the call for the "rational regulation" of higher education, and in particular for the equitable treatment of online learners.

Goldstein leads a group of attorneys and professionals with deep experience serving clients in the education sector, including public, independent and for-profit institutions, national, state and regional organizations, institutional and professional accrediting commissions, courseware developers, service providers, lenders and many of the private equity groups active in the field.

Goldstein has written and spoken extensively on issues such as the disaggregation of higher education, cross-border regulation, competency based education and experiential learning. He has served on many education committees, including as an expert member of the UNESCO-CHEA Task Force on Degree Mills, legal advisor on the 1986 study that first identified state regulation as a barrier to e-learning and as a member of the National Advisory Panel for the enactment of the State Authorization Reciprocity Act, which now promises to rationalize those barriers. He serves as general counsel to a number of national organizations currently including the American Association of Community Colleges, and has, in the past, served as general counsel to the State Higher Education Executive Officers and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. He holds an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the Fielding Graduate University and he is a recipient of the President's Medal from Excelsior College and WCET's Richard Jonson Award for Significant Contributions to the E-Learning Community.
