Press Release

Cooley Champions the OnRamp Fellowship for Women Attorneys

September 22, 2014

Palo Alto – September 22, 2014 – Cooley LLP announced today that it is continuing its partnership with the OnRamp Fellowship, with plans to hire additional female attorneys as part of the program's next phase.

In January 2014, Cooley pioneered the Fellowship's inaugural program, which resulted in the hires of attorneys Sheila Bridges and Mary Klumpp. The success of the pilot program, which also included three other AmLaw 100 law firms, has led to an overwhelming interest in the Fellowship and the addition of 11 new participating firms for phase two.

Conceived by lawyer recruitment, development and diversity veteran Caren Ulrich Stacy, the OnRamp Fellowship is an innovative program launched in January 2014 to provide women lawyers re-entering the legal profession with an opportunity to update their skills and legal contacts through one-year, paid positions with top law firms. The program aims to replenish the talent pipeline in law firms with diverse, high-performing lawyers who have the potential and the desire to advance into leadership roles.

"As a firm that is committed to the progression of women at all levels, Cooley is excited to see the momentum being generated by the OnRamp Fellowship," said Joe Conroy, Cooley's chief executive officer. "We are proud to have been one of the pioneering firms to support the Fellowship, and we wish it every success as the program expands into its second phase. This is a welcome and timely initiative for the profession."

Cooley is a three time honoree on the list of Working Mother magazine's "50 Best Law Firms for Women," as well as a three time recipient of the Gold Standard Certification distinction from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) for its achievements in the promotion and success of women attorneys. Cooley is also one of FORTUNE magazine's 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2014.
