Broomfield, Colo. – September 16, 2013 – Cooley LLP announced today that after 20 years as Partner-in-Charge of the Colorado office, Jim Linfield is transitioning the leadership of the office to fellow partner, Mike Platt. Linfield will remain a Cooley partner and will continue to focus on his practice and engagement with the business and innovation communities and at the University of Colorado.

Platt joined the Colorado office as its first lateral hire almost 20 years ago after having worked with two other Silicon Valley law firms. In that time, he has become a highly respected member of the Colorado entrepreneurial community. In addition to representing a number of Boulder's most significant technology and emerging growth companies, Platt has played key roles in the founding of a number of important organizations supporting entrepreneurship and technology, including Techstars and the Colorado Technology Association. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Silicon Flatirons Center for Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Colorado. Most recently, he led a Cooley team in the Rally Software IPO, a company he incorporated and advised through a multiple venture capital financings and acquisitions over the past 10 years.

"I am thrilled to lead our Colorado office, which sits at the epicenter of one of the most vibrant entrepreneurial communities in the country," said Platt. "Jim has been an incredible mentor to me over the years, and it is an honor to take over responsibility for the office from him."

The leadership change was announced at the office's 20th anniversary benefit concert held on September 7, 2013, in Boulder. Proceeds amounting to $5,000 benefited the Entrepreneur's Foundation of Colorado (EFCO), a network of entrepreneurs whose companies pledge a portion of founding equity or annual profits to the community.

In 1993, Cooley was the first Silicon Valley law firm to establish a presence in Colorado. Under Linfield's leadership, Cooley has become the leading law firm for innovators and entrepreneurs throughout the Rocky Mountain region. In 2013, the office was honored by the Denver Post as a "Top Workplace" for the second consecutive year.
