September 30, 2013

Palo Alto, Calif. – September 30, 2013 – Cooley LLP announced today that it has been named "Firm of the Year" in the categories of Mergers & Acquisitions and Financial & Transactional by LMG Life Sciences. In addition, Barbara Kosacz, partner and head of Cooley's life sciences practice, was named "Attorney of the Year" in both categories. New York-based health care and life sciences regulatory partner Wendy Goldstein was named "Attorney of the Year" for Healthcare Pricing and Reimbursement.

The LMG Life Sciences Awards, which is in its inaugural year, recognizes and honors the leading attorneys, firms and in-house counsel teams that have played a significant role in the life sciences industries over the past year.

Kosacz has more than 20 years of experience counseling clients in the life sciences arena. Her clients range from early-stage start ups to larger public companies. Her particular expertise is in complex strategic partnering transactions and mergers and acquisitions, but she also represents companies and investors in private financings, strategic investments, spin-outs, and public offerings.

Goldstein's practice focuses on healthcare fraud and abuse and government health care program matters that are relevant to manufacturers, payors and other ancillary providers in the health care life sciences space. She also represents those entities that invest in such concerns.  In addition, Goldstein specializes in defending pharmaceutical manufacturers in all phases of government investigations and inquiries, and negotiating settlement agreements and OIG corporate integrity agreements on behalf of manufacturers in connection with the resolution of qui tam and other government actions. She is a driving force behind Cooley's Health Care & Life Sciences Regulatory blog TheBeat @ CooleyHealth.

In the last three years, Cooley's dedicated life science transactions team has completed more than 85 deals valued in excess of $30 billion.
