Cooley LLP Named one of Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers 50 Best Law Firms for Women

November 14, 2012

New York – November 14, 2012 – Cooley LLP announced today that it has been named to the "50 Best Law Firms for Women" list by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers. The list recognizes law firms that have family-friendly policies and business development initiatives that are retaining women and advancing them into the leadership pipeline. The firms will be featured in the December/January issue of the magazine and on workingmother.com and flextimelawyers.com. A full list of the firms selected can be found here.

Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers founded the 50 Best Law Firms for Women initiative in 2007 to celebrate the law firms that are most successful in retaining and promoting women lawyers. Another key objective is to give law firms the benchmarking tools to enable them to improve the status of women in their firms in the future.

"Being named to "The 50 Best Law Firms for Women" list by Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers is the result of and validates Cooley's deep commitment to the professional and personal development of our women attorneys," said Shira Nadich Levin, chair of Cooley's Women's Initiative and partner-in-charge of the firm's New York office.

Cooley's Women's Initiative was created in 2010 as part of the firm's core diversity principles to attract, retain and mentor a strong network of women attorneys firmwide. The Initiative provides the tools needed to achieve professional success and personal fulfillment, including personalized counseling, business development training and networking opportunities for women associates across the firm. In addition to informal training opportunities, the Cooley Women's Initiative provides a formal cross-office counseling program for women associates to provide support and to act as a resource on various topics. Recent examples include:

Work-Life Integration Panel Discussion: The Women's Initiative recently hosted a panel presentation to share practical solutions for achieving work-life integration. Partners gave real-life examples and lessons on a number of topics including time management, productivity and leveraging resources and support.

Business Development Strategies: The Women's Initiative recently hosted a series of informal events across the firm focused on the discussion of successful business development strategies for women attorneys. The gatherings provided an open forum to share personal advice and anecdotes on various ways to approach business development opportunities.

Cooley also hosts, sponsors and participates in surveys associated with leading women's organizations throughout the US, including the Schaumbaugh Leadership Program, Talent Advisory Board (TAB), Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) and the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL).
