Featured agenda item

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm: How Enforcement Will Work: Private and Regulatory Action

Cooley cyber/data/privacy chair Mike Rhodes is a featured panelist.

While not setting up a European-style data protection authority, CCPA empowers the California attorney general to enforce privacy rights and obligations through sanctions and rulemaking authority. At the same time, it creates a private cause of action for harms suffered in a security breach and offers statutory damages and opportunities for consumer class actions. In this session, consumer advocates and those with deep experience working with the AG's office, discuss prospective enforcement challenges and opportunities for the government, businesses and individuals.
