Cooley Direct
There’s no better way to learn what it’s like to be an associate at Cooley than to spend a summer with us.
Cooley Direct allows law students to apply directly to our summer associate program. The application period for the 2028 program runs from November 1, 2026, to January 29, 2027, with candidates considered on a rolling basis.
How to apply
If you are interested in our general corporate or business litigation practice groups, please apply via our 2L summer associate application.
If you are interested in applying to one of our specific practice groups, such as intellectual property litigation, cyber/data/privacy, life sciences partnering or technology transactions, please apply via the corresponding job posting.

Please note
- Our 2028 summer associate program is open to law students with an anticipated graduation date of May/June 2029 (or December 2028).
- If you apply for our diversity fellowships, there is no need to apply separately through Cooley Direct. Your application will automatically be considered for the summer associate program, even if you are not ultimately selected as a recipient of a diversity fellowship.
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
- Only one application may be submitted.
- If you are interested in additional office locations or practice areas, please include that information in your cover letter.
- Applicants will be asked to provide an updated law school transcript once first-semester grades become available.
