TJ is the chair of Cooley’s technology transactions practice group and serves on the firm’s board of directors. He represents clients at all stages of their life cycles. His representations include companies’ most important technology and other business transactions – with a special focus on those involving high-tech devices, high-tech commercial transactions, artificial intelligence (AI) counseling and agreements, software, data, consumer products and digital media.

TJ also has significant experience advising clients on intellectual property and commercial matters across a multitude of strategic relationships. This includes technology and patent licenses, AI, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions involving large domestic and international technology companies.

TJ’s representative transactions include advising:

  • Chegg, the leading student-first online learning company, in its partnership with Scale AI, the data infrastructure for AI, to develop proprietary large language models (LLMs) to provide a generative experience through Chegg’s personalized learning assistant
  • Netflix in several gaming-related acquisitions
  • C3.ai in its joint venture with Baker Hughes, a GE company
  • Shein in connection with the launch of its global third-party marketplace
  • Snowflake, a cloud-based data warehouse company, in several acquisitions, including that of AI company Neeva
  • Zillow in its acquisition of Follow Up Boss
  • Uber on its agreement to sell a 50.03% stake in a newly created super app business unit of its Middle East subsidiary Careem to e& (formerly known as Emirates Telecommunications Group Company)
