About Courtney

Courtney represents clients in complex business disputes and government investigations. She has experience helping clients through every aspect of litigation, from discovery to trial. Courtney’s practice includes cases involving trade secret and copyright, data privacy, mergers & acquisitions, contracts and employment issues. She also works with clients through internal investigations and investigations by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Courtney’s recent representative experience includes: 

  • Representing entities and individuals in disputes of trade secret misappropriation and unfair competition.
  • Defending an education technology company in mass arbitration litigation arising from a 2018 data breach impacting 40 million users.
  • Representing venture- and private equity-backed buyers and sellers through all phases of post-acquisition disputes in M&A matters, such as indemnification disputes, purchase price adjustments, and representations and warranties claims investigation and assessment.
  • Defending business principals in SEC investigations involving allegations of misrepresentation and insider trading.
  • Conducting cross-border internal investigations regarding compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act as related to insider trading.

Courtney also maintains an active pro bono practice. She devotes time to representing individuals in asylum and other immigration matters, and she also has worked with nonprofit organizations on voting rights and voter protection litigation. 

While at Columbia Law School, Courtney served as a managing editor for the Columbia Journal of Race and Law. She also published a student note, “Is the Indian Child Welfare Act Losing Steam? Narrowing Non-Custodial Parental Rights After Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl,” in the Columbia Journal of Race and Law. In spring 2016, Courtney interned for Judge Gerard E. Lynch of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
