CoolIT, Corsair Secure Summary Judgment of Non-Infringement in Patent Dispute

Palo Alto – October 31, 2022 – A Cooley team secured a summary judgment victory for CoolIT Systems and Corsair Gaming. Partners Heidi Keefe and Reuben Chen led the Cooley team advising CoolIT and Corsair. 

In January 2019, Asetek Danmark A/S instigated a patent infringement suit against CoolIT in the US District Court for the Northern District of California and later added Corsair as a defendant. CoolIT counterclaimed with its own patents. In total, the case would see 11 patents asserted by the parties. Asetek asserted seven patents during the case, but after claim construction and IPRs, only one Asetek patent remained for the parties’ summary judgment hearing. In contrast, claims from three of four CoolIT patents survived Asetek’s attacks.

The district court granted CoolIT’s motion for summary judgment of non-infringement against Asetek’s patent and denied Asetek’s attempt at summary judgment of non-infringement against CoolIT’s patents. Shortly thereafter, the parties resolved their disputes pursuant to a confidential settlement agreement.
