Lois Benes Voelz is a partner in the Employment & Labor practice group and a member of the Cooley Godward Kronish Litigation department. A resident of both the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices, she joined the Firm in 1990.
Mrs. Voelz has worked for more than 30 years in the labor and employment field, most of that time as an attorney representing management.
Her current practice is devoted to providing strategic advice and counseling to employers on subjects within the full range of employment law. She has experience in labor union relations and employment litigation.
Prior to joining Cooley, Mrs. Voelz was associated for three years with Littler, Mendelson, Fastiff, Tichy & Mathiason in San Francisco, specializing in employment and labor relations litigation.
Mrs. Voelz obtained a law degree in 1987 from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, where she was editor-in-chief of the Industrial Relations Law Journal. A National Merit Scholar, she received a bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Harvard University in 1975.
Prior to attending law school, Mrs. Voelz worked for the National Labor Relations Board from 1975 to 1978. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she investigated union representation issues and alleged violations of the federal labor relations laws.
From 1979 to 1984, Mrs. Voelz served as an Industrial Relations Specialist at Texas Instruments Incorporated, responsible for human resources management and EEO discrimination cases. Mrs. Voelz has represented employers in state and federal court, and before the following state and federal agencies: National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, California Labor Commissioner (DLSE), California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (UIAB), California Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA), California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB), U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH).
Mrs. Voelz is a member of the State Bar of California. She is admitted to practice in the Northern, Eastern and Central U.S. District Courts in California, and the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
