Christian Plaza, Partner In Charge

Christian Plaza is a partner in the Life Sciences and Emerging Companies practice groups, and is partner in charge of the Firm's Boston office.  He joined the Firm in 2000, and is resident in the Firm's Boston and Reston offices.

Mr. Plaza's practice focuses on the representation of clients in the biotechnology and healthcare industries. He has over 16 years of experience in working with clients on a variety of corporate and securities activities, with an emphasis on public and private offerings, venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships and collaborations, as well as corporate compliance matters. In addition, Mr. Plaza regularly represents a number of leading venture capital firms and investors.

Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Plaza was in private practice at Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe, where he practiced in the Venture Capital and Emerging Growth Companies Practice Group. While at Piper, he was responsible for negotiating and structuring equity and debt-based venture capital investments, public and private offerings, mergers and acquisitions for public and private companies, management buyouts, strategic alliances and similar corporate transactions for life sciences and emerging growth companies. Prior to joining Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe, Mr. Plaza was in the Corporate and Securities Group in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart.

Mr. Plaza received a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1993, where he was a senior editor of the Georgetown International Environmental Law Review. He earned his B.A. in Political Science, with honors, from Rutgers College in 1990 with a minor in Biology.

Mr. Plaza is a frequent lecturer on the corporate issues faced by life sciences companies, and has led panels at numerous industry conferences including BIO, BioEquity Europe and Mid-Atlantic BIO.  He is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Section) and the bar associations of Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia.
