Joe Drayton, Cooley LLP

New York – August 4, 2015 – New York-based litigation partner Joe Drayton has been appointed to two distinguished positions. The American Bar Association has appointed Drayton to the Federal Judiciary Committee to represent the Second Circuit, while the National Bar Association has elected Drayton as a Vice President.

The Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary of the American Bar Association evaluates the professional qualifications of all nominees to the Supreme Court of the United States, circuit courts of appeals, district courts (including territorial district courts) and the Court of International Trade. The Committee, at the request of the President, provides the White House with an evaluation of the professional qualifications of each prospective nominee for District and Circuit courts in advance of the President making a nomination and for the U.S. Supreme Court post nomination.

In addition, the National Bar Association, which is the nation's oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges, elected Drayton as a Vice President during its Annual Convention. Drayton has served on the board of the National Bar Association for more than three years.

Drayton's practice focuses on a broad range of intellectual property and complex commercial matters. His experience includes patent litigation, trademark and copyright usage, trade dress, design patents and false advertising. Drayton has been internationally recognized by IAM Patent 1000 and National Black Trial Lawyers Top 100 for his success as a patent trial attorney, and he is an inaugural member of the National Bar Association's "Nation's Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40." In addition to his successful patent practice, Drayton is the current co-chair of the firm's African American affinity group. In 2014, Drayton was one of only four attorneys to be honored with the New York City Bar Diversity Award for his transformative leadership in numerous bar groups and active participation in local and national diversity initiatives.
