Andrew Gantt is a partner in the Cooley Business Department and a member of the Life Sciences Practice Group. Mr. Gantt is the immediate past leader of Cooley's Health Care and Life Sciences Regulatory Practice. He joined the Firm in 2011 and is resident in the Washington, DC office.
Mr. Gantt's practice focuses on health care and life sciences regulatory counseling, complex transactions, and strategic business advice. Mr. Gantt represents a wide variety of health care and life sciences companies, health plans, health care providers, manufacturers, suppliers, health care IT, information services, and digital health companies in corporate and regulatory matters. In addition, he advises venture capital groups, private equity funds, investment banks and other investors and financial groups on health care regulatory issues in connection with the financing of health care mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and financings.
Mr. Gantt has a particular expertise in advising health care and life sciences, technology and information services companies on digital health regulatory issues and health care data privacy and security issues, including compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH). He also has extensive experience advising companies regarding other health care regulations, including compliance with federal and state fraud and abuse laws.
Mr. Gantt has been recommended as a Health Care and Life Sciences attorney by The Legal 500: United States 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Editions. In 2014 and 2015, Mr. Gantt was recognized as Life Sciences Attorney of the Year in Washington, D.C. by Global Law Experts. He was recently recognized as one of the top 10 outstanding health care IT lawyers by Nightingale's Healthcare News. Mr. Gantt is the past chair of the ABA eHealth, Privacy & Security Interest Group, and has been elected to serve on the Leadership Council of the ABA Health Law Section. He is the Editor-in-Chief and co-author of the BNA Second Edition of E-Health, Privacy and Security Law.
Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Gantt was a partner at Latham & Watkins, serving in the firm's Health Care and Life Sciences Group for 13 years. Prior to that, he served as Associate Counsel with The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland. He previously served as law clerk to the Honorable Justice Elizabeth B. Lacy, Justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia.
