Pro Bono

Commitment to the community is an important part of our culture at Cooley LLP and a fundamental component of our vision and values. We strive to give generously of our time, talents and resources to the communities in which we practice, and pro bono work is one of the primary ways we fulfill that goal.

We give pro bono matters the same staffing, attention and resources as billable matters. We also assign pro bono matters the same weight and credit as billable matters when evaluating each lawyer's contributions to the firm.

We encourage lawyers from all Cooley offices and all practice groups to be actively involved in our pro bono practice. In 2014, more than 600 Cooley lawyers contributed nearly 38,000 hours on more than 700 pro bono matters.

Our breadth of expertise enables us to take on a wide variety of pro bono matters, including impact litigation, individual cases, and transactional matters. For example, Cooley lawyers regularly handle asylum, guardianship and domestic violence cases, and actively represent a broad array of foundations and nonprofit organizations. Why We Get Involved

Cooley's Pro Bono practice thrives not only because of the firm's commitment but also because of the dedication of individuals around the firm. View the video below to hear about why our lawyers and staff get involved in pro bono work.
