Patrick J. Mitchell is a partner in the Cooley Business department. He joined the firm in 2007 and is resident in the firm's Boston and New York offices. Mr. Mitchell is also a co-founder of the firm's Growth Equity Practice.
Mr. Mitchell practices in the areas of private equity, growth equity, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law. Mr. Mitchell regularly counsels growth and technology companies in various industries, including software, digital media, advertising, e-commerce and wireless. He represents several leading private equity, growth equity and venture capital firms in connection with leveraged acquisitions, portfolio investments and matters relating to their portfolio companies. A significant portion of Mr. Mitchell's practice is devoted to companies with international legal needs, including financing and commercial transactions in the United Kingdom, the European Union, Canada, China and India.
Mr. Mitchell has been recognized in Chambers USA as a leader in the practice of private equity/venture capital every year since 2007. He has also been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the 2010-2013 and 2015-2016 editions. Mr. Mitchell received recognition as a leading lawyer in the 2015 US edition of Legal 500 for M&A/Corporate and Commercial - Venture Capital and Emerging Companies.
Mr. Mitchell received his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his BA from the University of Massachusetts.
