Kevin F. Kelly is of counsel to the Life Sciences practice group and a member of the Firm's Business department. He joined the firm in 2008 and is resident in the Seattle office.
Mr. Kelly has special expertise and experience in structuring and negotiating complex life sciences collaborations, strategic alliances and related transactions. He represents numerous clients, primarily relating to biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, vaccines and computer software. He has represented U.S., European, Canadian and Japanese corporations in negotiating these transactions, and has negotiated with companies throughout the world.
Among other clients, Mr. Kelly has represented Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., of Japan in connection with many transactions for many years, and he has represented PATH (a non-profit) in connection with several transactions funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the development of vaccines for the developing world.
Mr. Kelly travels extensively in his practice, with frequent trips to Europe, Japan, China and India. He is a frequent speaker on the subject of negotiating biopharma agreements, and he has also written a chapter of a book on the subject of negotiating software licenses. Mr. Kelly is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Biotechnology Law).
Mr. Kelly received his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, where he served as Head Notes and Comments Editor of the California Law Review and was elected to Order of the Coif. He received a B.A., summa cum laude, in Economics from Gonzaga University. Mr. Kelly clerked as a judicial extern to the Honorable Stanley Mosk of the Supreme Court of California and, following graduation from law school, served as a law clerk to the Honorable Eugene A. Wright of the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Kelly is admitted to practice in Washington state and is a member of the Washington State Bar Association.
