Cooley mourns the loss of former partner, Justin Feldman, who passed away on September 21, 2011 at the age of 92. Justin joined our predecessor firm in New York, Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman LLP, in 1982 after a long and celebrated career in public service, politics and private practice. In addition to being an outstanding lawyer, he was a mentor and inspiration to many of his younger partners. Justin was instrumental in building our New York litigation practice, and every lawyer at Kronish Lieb benefitted from both his wisdom and his reputation.
Among his many accomplishments were the following: He served as Administrative Assistant to Congressman Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr. He was a leader in the post-war reform movement of the New York Democratic Party. He was a member of President Kennedy's transition team and served on the special task force created by the President on the reorganization of federal regulatory agencies. He was instrumental in persuading Robert F. Kennedy to run for the Senate in 1964, and helped run that successful campaign. He served on the Board of the Metropolitan Transit Authority. He served as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He was a confidant of numerous elected officials both on the local and national levels.
He was a lawyer's lawyer. He was a great teacher. He will be missed.
