Ian B. Blumenstein is a partner in the Cooley Business Department and a member of the Credit Finance, Debt Finance, Public Companies, Public Offering and Securities Regulation practices. He joined the Firm in 2010, and maintains offices in New York and Boston.
Mr. Blumenstein's practice is focused on high-yield debt financings in which he advises both issuers and underwriters, and on other equity and debt capital markets transactions for corporate and investment banking clients. Over the course of his career, he has represented many of the world's top investment banks, including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, Jefferies & Company, Morgan Stanley and UBS.
Mr. Blumenstein also has extensive experience representing companies in other securities and general corporate matters, including restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, '34 Act compliance, and derivative securities.
Mr. Blumenstein received a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1989. He earned his B.A., with high honors, in Political Science and English from the University of Michigan in 1986.
Before joining Cooley, Mr. Blumenstein was a partner in the New York and Boston offices of Proskauer Rose LLP. Prior to Proskauer, he was a partner in the New York office and managing partner of the Boston office of Latham & Watkins LLP, which he joined as an associate in 1989. Mr. Blumenstein also served as Managing Director, High Yield Capital Markets, of BancBoston Robertson Stephens from 1998 to 1999.
Mr. Blumenstein has been recognized by the US Legal 500 for his work in Capital Markets.
Mr. Blumenstein is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts.
