Eric A. Kauffman is an associate in the Employment & Labor practice group and a member of the Cooley Litigation department. He joined the Firm in 2007 and is resident in the San Diego office.
Mr. Kauffman's practice is international in scope and encompasses both employment counseling and litigation. Since 1996, he has represented employers in numerous class action and multiparty proceedings alleging violations of state and federal civil rights and antidiscrimination laws, as well as wage and hour and ERISA benefit claims. His employment litigation practice extends to all aspects of employment discrimination: race, gender, and age discrimination, affirmative action, disability rights, leave issues, wage and hour claims, employee privacy issues, Internet abuse, theft of trade secrets, non-compete agreements, and other related issues.
Mr. Kauffman counsels clients on preventive law issues and has also designed and conducted training seminars. His counseling expertise extends to a wide variety of matters including advice on employee handbooks, executive compensation agreements, hiring and terminating employees, proprietary information and trade secret protection, workplace investigations and general labor and employment counseling.
Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Kauffman was a senior employment litigation associate at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP (now Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP) in Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Kauffman received a master of Law (LL.M. with Merit Honors) in 2006 from the London School of Economics and Political Science, specializing in European Labor and Employment Law. He received a J.D., cum laude, in 1996 from the Duquesne University School of Law. While at Duquesne, Mr. Kauffman completed an externship with the Honorable Donald J. Lee of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Kauffman received a B.A., cum laude, in History and Political Science from Muhlenberg College in 1993.
Mr. Kauffman is admitted to practice in California and Pennsylvania.
