The Cooley Godward Kronish Diversity Fellowship Program

As part of Cooley Godward Kronish's ongoing commitment to recruiting, developing and retaining a diverse and talented team at all levels throughout the Firm, we are proud to offer Diversity Fellowships to outstanding law students. First-year law students with a diverse background, broadly defined to include ethnicity, gender, physical disability and sexual orientation, are invited to apply for one of 8 fellowships consisting of awards up to $15,000 to assist with law school tuition and an invitation to join Cooley's Summer Associate Program. Awards will be announced to the students in the summer following their first year of law school with the Summer Associate position to start following the successful completion of the recipient's 2L year.

The eligibility/selection criteria and application process for the Program are as follows:

Eligibility

We welcome applications from all law students who meet these eligibility criteria:

  • Personal diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, physical disability and/or sexual orientation
  • Enrolled full-time in an ABA accredited law school and in the 1L year at time of application
  • Commit to joining the Firm's Summer Associate Program following the applicant's 2L year
  • Not a recipient of a similar diversity award from another law firm for the same time period

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be selected based on consideration of the following factors:

  • Commitment to promoting goals of diversity
  • Academic performance
    Personal achievements
  • Leadership abilities
  • Community service
  • Commitment to joining the Cooley Godward Kronish Summer Associate Program

Application Process

Applications must include:

  • A completed application form
  • A brief personal statement
  • A current resume
  • Law school transcript
  • Undergraduate transcript

Applicants may also submit the following optional materials:

  • Up to two letters of recommendation
  • Up to three references
  • A legal writing sample

Please note that all of the above information must be completed and attached before the application can be submitted.

For 1L students in the 2008-2009 school year, applications must be received by April 15, 2009. We will contact selected applicants to arrange a personal interview and awards will be made thereafter.

The application period for our 2009 Diversity Fellowship Program has closed. We encourage you to contact us this coming Fall regarding our 2010 Summer Program.
