Christopher A. Westover is a partner in the Cooley Godward Kronish Business department and is resident in the San Francisco office. He has been with the Firm since 1968. Mr. Westover serves as the General Counsel of the Firm. He is also the vice chair of the Firm's Business department, a position he also held from 1999 through 2003. He served as chair of the Firm's Business department in 2004 and 2005.
Mr. Westover has a broad corporate and securities practice involving representation of both public and privately held companies, as well as not-for-profit corporations. He has substantial experience in representing both buyers and sellers in mergers and acquisitions. In addition to representing numerous technology and service companies, Mr. Westover represents consumer product and retail companies.
Mr. Westover also practices sports law, having represented the Golden State Warriors from 1986 through the sale of the team in 1995. He represented the buyers of the Oakland Athletics in 1995 through the sale of the team in 2005. Mr. Westover also represented the San Francisco Spiders, an International Hockey League expansion team.
Mr. Westover received his law degree from Stanford University in 1968, where he was a member of the Board of Editors of the Stanford Law Review. He received his Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of San Francisco in 1965, graduating cum laude.
Mr. Westover was previously a member of the Board of Visitors of the Stanford Law School and a member of the Athletic Advisory Board of the University of San Francisco. He also served on the Steering Committee of the Holy Names University Annual Symposium for Business Leaders and on the Board of Regents of Bishop O'Dowd High School, a co-educational college preparatory school in Oakland, California, where he served three terms as President of the Board.
