Cooley was honored as a "Go To Firm" in both the Banking & Financing and Litigation categories in a survey of general counsel at leading U.S. financial services companies.


The Daily JournalTop Northern California Law Firms 
Cooley was one of only three firms to be recognized as a Top 10 Northern California law firm for both Corporate and Litigation.


Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst—Most Active Law Firms 
Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst named Cooley in the top ten of its national Most Active Law Firm list. Rankings were determined by the number of private equity and venture capital deals negotiated and closed in 2007. Cooley represented 344 deals as reported by Dow Jones.


Euromoney Institutional Investor Benchmark: Litigation 2008 
Cooley was recognized in the top category as "highly recommended" amongst California litigation firms in the debut edition of Benchmark: Litigation. Inclusion was based upon peers' and clients' regard that the Firm is "definitively dominant in their particular jurisdiction."

Cooley represented Affymax in its collaboration with Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited for its global partnership on Hematide™ (erythropoiesis-stimulating agent) which was named a “2007 Deal of Distinction” by the Licensing Executives Society. The deal was one of only five highlighted for the complex art involved in the creation of clear agreements that permit IP transfer.

The National Law Journal 2007 Defense Hot List
Cooley's litigation department has been recognized for its exemplary defense work and is included as one of 10 firms selected on the National Law Journal's third annual "Defense Hot List."

IPO Vital Signs
Cooley was named the most active IPO issuer’s counsel nationwide for life sciences companies in 2005, handling nearly 25 percent of all life sciences IPO’s.

In June 2006, Cooley was honored with the Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award for its tremendous contribution to legal services through its collaboration with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. In addition, three Cooley attorneys received the Wiley W. Manuel Pro Bono Award, including Mazda AntiaCathy Hongola and Philip Tencer,  in recognition of their outstanding contributions to pro bono service.

The National Law Journal Pro Bono Award
Cooley received The National Law Journal's Pro Bono Award for its representation of a nationwide class of lawful permanent residents in a successful challenge against the Department of Homeland Security to issue proof of lawful status. The case, Santillan, et al. v. Gonzales, et al was selected as one of the country's top fourpro bono cases of 2005.

Legal Aid Society of New York
The Legal Aid Society of New York presented its Pro Bono Service Award for outstanding volunteer work to Kronish Lieb for the legal services provided by its attorneys to low-income New Yorkers; and eight Kronish Lieb individuals received Pro Bono Awards for their contributions.
