Back to Real Estate Home Page |

Cooley's California real estate attorneys have established a specialty in representing clients with extensive vineyard and ranch holdings, including owners of vineyard and ranch lands in the Carmel, Capay, Sonoma, Napa and Hope valleys.  Our work has included assisting clients with the acquisition and disposition of lands, the creation of conservation easements, the creation and restructuring of access easements, water rights agreements and grape purchase contracts.

Representative transactions include advising:

  • The Bartholomew Park Foundation for the past generation in its capacity as grape grower and landlord to The Vineburg Company, which operates The Bartholomew Park Winery, and in connection with the Foundation's operation of The Bartholomew Park.
  • A long-established ranching family in connection with the creation of a conservation easement on a portion of a 20,000-acre ranch that spans Mendocino and Sonoma Counties.
  • A private client in connection with the sale of a several hundred acre private reserve to The Peninsula Open Space District.
  • A group of investors in connection with the acquisition and ultimate disposition of an 800-acre vineyard in Carmel Valley.
  • A private client in connection with the sale of prime vineyard land in Napa Valley.
  • A private client in connection with the purchase and establishment of a vineyard and winery in Capay Valley.
