Cooley Godward Opens Washington, D.C. Office
Washington, D.C. (September 8, 2005) — Cooley Godward LLP today announced the opening of its Washington, D.C. office in the historic Bowen Building within blocks of the White House. The D.C. office is Cooley's second on the East coast.
"The addition of the D.C. office is another step in the national expansion of our robust complex transaction and litigation capabilities. This office and the attorneys resident in D.C. strongly position us to serve the leading companies in the world in all of their critical legal needs, including those intersecting with the federal government," said Steve Neal, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cooley Godward. "The firm has a clear understanding of the current high growth business and government environments, and can provide unsurpassed counsel for emerging and large companies in regulatory, policy and competition matters."
With its first East Coast office in Reston, Virginia, having grown to nearly 60 attorneys since its opening in 1999, Cooley will augment its presence in the Mid-Atlantic region with the expansion of its preeminent corporate and litigation practices, with particular emphasis on the technology, life sciences and international trade regulation sectors. Ten partners and associates will be resident in the Washington, D.C. office as of its opening, including three founding partners of the office who joined Cooley in July — Margaret ("Maggie") H. Kavalaris (former Managing Partner of Gray Cary in Washington, D.C., now DLA), Michael X. Marinelli and Tami J. Howie.
"We have capacity and are poised for significant growth in D.C.," said Joe Conroy, Partner in Charge of Cooley Godward's Washington, D.C. office. "We intend to populate the office with the best D.C. area attorneys who appreciate and understand our superb client base, and share our commitment to superior service and work product of the highest quality. Having just been named to The American Lawyer's annual ‘A List' as one of the top 20 law firms in the United States, we are anxious to augment our ranks with attorneys who seek to practice at one of this country's finest law firms."
